The National Library of Wales, Wikimedia UK, and the editing community have worked together since 2014 to host a Wikimedian in Residence and in August 2017 the National Library appointed a permenent Wikimedian to their staff. Wikipedia and its sister projects are now a core aspect of the Library’s activities and services. Building on the successful collaboration between the Library, Wikimedia UK and the Wiki community, the National Wikimedian will lead activities associated with the Library’s collections, Wales as a nation and the Welsh language. Wici-health Project
Following the success of the Wicipop project, funded by a Welsh Government grant, The National Library made a successful request for £40,000 funding from the Welsh Government in order to run a 9 month project aimed at improving health related content on the Welsh language Wikipedia. The project focused on community engagement, securing the release of openly licensed health texts and using data, and machine translation to automatically generate Welsh language Wikipedia content.
