Equipment Loan Procedure
Wikimedia UK has a pool of equipment and merchandise available for use, for example when visiting the office or attending events. The requirements for use of the equipment are:
- The use adheres to the objects of the charity “for the benefit of the public, to promote and support the widest possible public access to, use of and contribution to Open Content of an encyclopaedic or educational nature or of similar utility to the general public”.
- Any media files created must be published under a free license acceptable on Wikimedia Commons, complying with the project scope.
- Media files created and uploaded to Wikimedia Commons must be tagged with the template {{WMUK equipment}} so that it is categorised within the appropriate category for media files generated.
Member Loan Procedures
Wikimedia UK offers equipment loans to members of the charity. In order to loan equipment as an individual, you must:
- Be a member of the charity with a "Current" or "Grace" membership
- Be in good standing with the charity
We do this so that we know where the equipment is being used or kept - this in turn helps keep our insurance costs down and allows us to prove to our members and donors what the equipment loan supported!
Not a member?
If you are not a member, and do not wish to become a member, there may be other options, e.g. getting a current member to take responsibility for borrowing the equipment, depending on the project. Ask the office for help.
Organisational Loan Procedure
The procedure for organisational loans (such as other Wikimedia Chapters, museums, or community groups) are considered on a case-by-case basis.
To borrow any of the chapter's equipment, please email volunteering
wikimedia.org.uk or call the office on 020 7065 0990. If you have ideas for something that is not on the list, you can also make suggestions for purchase or rental.
