About the event

Building on the incredible success of the international Art+Feminism Meetup event in February, the University of Dundee's Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design are excited to host a follow-up editathon and Wikifest as part of the Women who Shaped Scotland project. Organised by the National Library of Scotland and Wikimedia UK, the project consists of a series of editathons run during March 2014, aiming to improve Wikipedia's coverage of influential Scottish women in a variety of professions.

The Women+Art in Scotland event will look to add and improve information about Scottish women who have made a significant artistic impact in the UK and around the world. Graduates from the college and affiliates are ideal subjects for contribution, but we encourage participants to focus on any Scottish women artists or artists who worked or studied in Scotland. Whether creating entirely new articles for women who have been overlooked thus far, or working on existing articles to make them better and more informative, any contribution is welcomed!

The day will be split into three parts. The first will be an informal drop-in training and information session for any students, faculty, staff, or members of the public who would like to learn more about Wikipedia and how to contribute. This will be followed by a formal round-table discussion on the relationship between artists, their work, and intellectual property rights in an increasingly open access digital world. Finally, all are welcome to join us in a tea-and-biscuit-fuelled editathon to put their newly acquired editing skills to work creating and improving articles about Scottish women who have left a lasting legacy in the artistic world.
