About Wikimedia UK
Wikimedia UK is the local Wikimedia chapter covering the United Kingdom. The chapter is incorporated under the name "Wiki UK Limited" and uses Wikimedia UK as its operating name. It was approved as a chapter by the Wikimedia Foundation on 12 January 2009. Wikimedia UK is an entirely separate organization from the Wikimedia Foundation, and has no control over the contents of Wikipedia or any other projects run by the Wikimedia Foundation. We exist to help collect, develop and distribute freely licensed knowledge (and other educational, cultural and historic content), part of which we do by supporting the charitable activities of the Wikimedia Foundation. The chapter's Constitution consists of the Memorandum of Association and the Articles of Association. The first Board of Trustees were elected in September 2008, and the company was incorporated on 5 November 2008. Our first first Annual General Meeting was held on April 26th, where a new board was elected. Membership applications are now being accepted.

We responded to a Copyright law consultation paper from the UK Intellectual Property Office in February 2009, and are expecting a follow up discussion paper in the autumn.
