Purpose of job: A Wikimedian in Residence's underlying task is to build a relationship between the organisation and the Wikimedia community through a range of activities, both internal and public-facing.
Duties and responsibilities
- To establish links between XXXXXXXX curatorial staff and Wikipedia volunteers.
- To encourage the creation of new articles and the improvement of the quality of existing entries relating to XXXXXXXX projects, items and collections on Wikipedia and sister websites, in conjunction with curators and other colleagues.
- To test and implement processes for exploiting the XXXXXXXX Access and Re-use of Digital Collections Policy within Wikimedia Foundation projects.
- To encourage and increase the direct participation of XXXXXXXX in the provision of content for Wikipedia.
- To cultivate the relationship between Wikimedia UK and the XXXXXXXX with a view to creating possible joint projects.
Main tasks
- To undertake a mapping of XXXXXXXX related Wikipedia articles, working closely with XXXXXXXX staff (be role specific if necessary).
- To liaise with curators from across XXXXXXXX and volunteers from Wikimedia to develop a programme for creating Wikipedia articles.
- To arrange and deliver several workshops for XXXXXXXX staff and public workshops on the practice of Wikipedia editing.
- To encourage and support XXXXXXXX curators to edit and create new content for Wikipedia.
- To provide training and best-practice guidance on Wikipedia editing and Wikimedia volunteer engagement for XXXXXXXX staff by means of presentations and direct instruction.
- To produce ongoing and a summary report on the outcomes of the residency.
- To demonstrate a willingness to take on a range of tasks and to develop new skills, as appropriate, in own or other departments/directorates to support the delivery of the XXXXXXXX's services as required by line management

Skills/Abilities
- The ability to teach and support those learning to use Wikipedia and its sister websites.
- Ability to develop and maintain reporting systems.
- Ability to communicate in English clearly, both verbally and in writing to a wide variety of audiences.
- Ability to work tactfully, sensitively and effectively, as part of the institution, the Wikimedian community and with a wide range of individuals.
- Ability to prioritise workload and work under own initiative.
- Basic numeracy.
Knowledge
- An understanding of and empathy for Wikimedia's mission to help people and organisations build and preserve open knowledge to share and use freely.
- Experience of editing Wikipedia or its sister websites. Supplementary training may be given.
Experience
- Experience of working with the Wikimedia community.
- An understanding of the GLAM sector, its culture and aims.
- Familiarity with basic office IT packages. Experience with open source software would be welcomed.
- Experience of working effectively within an office environment
- Evidence of ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Experience of successfully meeting deadlines.
