Proposal for consultant for GLAM-WIKI 2013 conference programme
Proposal
This is a draft of a posting to relevant internal (UK, Cult-partners, GLAM) & external (eg Culture 24) lists, & our blog, as the simplest way to get a proposal up for the board. It's been produced by Jon & myself, & of course we're open to comments. Time is of the essence here, & I'd like to post this this week, with someone ready to start the week after next.
- TEXT:
- GLAM-WIKI Conference - Consultant to construct the programme required
Wikimedia UK is planning a 2nd major GlAM-WIKI conference in April 2013 at the British Library (insert link), to follow up the success of our 2010 conference (insert link). We are looking for someone to organise the major themes and speakers for the conference, to start as soon as possible and to complete the work by late December at the latest. Major speakers from within and outside the Wikimedia movement to be booked, including an international element, with topics agreed, and themes agreed with WMUK for a general call for papers to fill the rest of the programme.
This person would be working independently with the support of the WMUK London office. A London, or UK, base is desirable but not essential, as most of the work will need to be done remotely in any case. Applications from those without permission to work in the UK will therefore be possible, though such a person should then work on this entirely from outside the UK. The consultant must have:
- An understanding of the aims and objective of WIkimedia UK and the planned conference.
- Extensive experience of the Wiki Glam environment both in the UK and internationally.
- Good knowledge of and contacts in GLAM institutions in the UK and internationally, especially in those aspects most relevant to Wikimedia-GLAM interaction.
- Experience of assembling programmes for similar events.
- Excellent organisational and communications skills, including excellent spoken and written English.
Remuneration as a contractor in the region of GBP 2,000 is envisaged.
Apply to ?Daria by ?soon with a CV (resume) with a statement of up to 800 words on your suitability for the contract. If you have questions or wish to discuss the contract you may contact ?? before applying by phone or Skype.

Discussion
John, could you provide a more detailed rationale (if only a couple of paragraphs) as to why this post is needed, and how the contractor will fit with Daria and the GLAM committee? The Land (talk) 21:29, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

I suggest Trustees take until 23.59 on Friday 23 November to discuss this proposal, and then vote here before the end of Friday 30 November The Land (talk) 21:27, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
