Preparation

  • Papers and posters should indicate - instead or in addition to keywords - the top 3 (or so) most relevant Wikipedia articles that would be useful to understand the matter of the conference contribution
  • Abstracts - or even the full papers - should link to Wikipedia articles when concepts come up first

During the conference

Talks/ poster sessions

Presenters

... should be encouraged to ...

  • highlight or at least mention the top 3 (or so) Wikipedia articles relevant to their presentation
  • use materials from Wikimedia projects, or to make their own materials available under a Wikimedia-compatible license, perhaps even uploading directly to Commons

Audience

... should be encouraged to ...

  • check existing Wikipedia articles (especially the ones highlighted by the presenters or in the abstracts) in their preferred languages as well as the Commons categories for quality, quantity, illustration etc.
  • communicate these articles and a rough evaluation by way of social media
  • get back to the presenters with specific questions related to improving/ starting these articles
  • document the event by audio, video or otherwise and to make these materials available under a Wikimedia-compatible license, perhaps even uploading directly to Commons

Organizers

  • should encourage above behaviour

Post-processing

  • Follow-up on ideas for large-scale or longer-term collaborations between the wiki and research community
