Useful information
What to bring
- Your camera
- Your laptop (don't worry if you can't bring one, we hope to have a few available for attendees to use)
- A GPS navigation device, or 'GPSr', if you have one. Targets will hopefully be listed with WGS84 co-ordinates and we hope to have a .gpx file of targets available for download on the day, addition to addresses.
- A data cable/card reader for transferring your photos.
- Everyone is welcome, so please feel free to invite friends or family to attend, too.
On the day
Participants will meet at The Herbert at a time yet to be decided. Those who have not registered online will register here. If you want to compete in a team, we can sort these out at this point. Registration will include granting permission for all photographs to be placed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 License.
Register online here: Wikipedia Takes Coventry registration
However, even if you've pre-registered, you still have to show up at The Herbert to check in and receive your information packet, including the goal list and rules.

Code of conduct
- Respecting personality rights: You should not make persons on the street the focus of your photographs, without their permission. If someone is in the background, or part of a crowd, or happens to be standing in front of a building in an inconspicuous way, it's OK but you shouldn't focus on an individual.
- Respecting the rights of property owners: Property owners have the right to restrict you from taking a photograph while standing on their property. But, you can take any photograph as long as you are standing on public property. If someone asks you to stop, stop.
- Respecting the police: If the police ask you to stop, stop.
Photography advice
- Keep pictures in focus.
- Avoid shadows.
- Show the whole subject in one shot, if possible; avoid cutting off tops of buildings.
Prizes
Prizes will be handed out by the Wikimedia UK board the following weekend, at The Herbert. This will be filmed and hopefully broadcast live (unless of course the winner does not wish to be filmed).

- Do I have to register to attend, or can I just arrive on the day?
- You *must register*, but if you have not done so in advance you can do so on the day. This will take away from precious photography time, however.
- Who is this event for?
- Anyone can attend the event! All you need is a camera and a desire to photograph Coventry at its best.
- Where should I park?
- The museum is located in Coventry city centre, about 15 minutes' walk from Coventry rail station. There is no dedicated parking for the museum, but there are a number of pay and display car parks nearby. Blue Badge holders may park on Bayley Lane, opposite the entrance to The Herbert. Coventry City Council has produced a city centre map which details car parks and public transport: City Centre Map. The Herbert is located in the Cathedral Quarter at the corner of Bayley Lane and Jordan Well. See also the Museum's getting here instructions for directions.
- If I bring my laptop, can I leave it somewhere safe?
- We will have some laptops available for use but it will be better for you to bring your own. You can leave bags and laptops etc. at the museum. The room will either be occupied all day or it will be locked. All equipment is left at your own risk.
