Wikimedia UK has received permission from the Wikimedia Foundation to use their logos for merchandising and some other purposes. More details on our plans to use this permission will come soon.

Which logos?

Permission covers all logos and trademarks that are owned by the Foundation, including Wikipedia, Wikimedia and the "project family". Many of these logos are shown at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:High-resolution_official_Wikimedia_logos.

What merchandise?

We are not restricted in the merchandise we produce, which could cover anything from T-shirts, pens, mugs, mouse mats or ties. The first one we aim to produce is T-shirts.

Any restrictions?

We have been given permission to use Wikimedia Foundation logos:

  1. "solely for our own use in publicity, fundraising, media relations and management", and
  2. "solely in merchandise that will be sold or given exclusively to Wikimedia UK members... the merchandise will also contain a Wikimedia UK name or logo"

The second permission will expire on 1 May 2010 as a new trademark agreement may be in place by then.
