- What is it?
A day-and-a-half conference looking at Wikipedia, Wikiversity and related charitable projects, not in terms of educational resources, but educational practice, including good faith collaboration, open review, and global participation. It's a chance to talk about innovative work in your institution or online community, and shape the future of Wikimedia UK's work in this area
We will explore the ways these projects can support innovative education. We will discuss the Wikipedia Education Program (in which university students improve Wikipedia articles for course credit). We will learn from universities where the program is already embedded, exploring the educational opportunities and drawing lessons from the experience so far.

Programme
The conference runs from Wednesday morning until after lunch on Thursday. A main room and small breakout room are available, both with modern audio-visual facilities.

Getting there
Venue and travel
The conference venue and accommodation are in the University's Oadby campus, a ten-minute drive from Leicester city centre and train station.
Built in 1907, Stamford Hall combines oak-panelled rooms with modern facilities and wi-fi. There is a large car-park on site. Lunch and refreshments will be provided on both days.
The rooms and dining area are all on the ground floor and the buildings have access ramps. A disabled toilet is available close to the meeting rooms.

In the area
The University of Leicester Harold Martin Botanic Garden is a garden located close to the event's site. It has been set up in 1921. Other attractions in Leicester include National Space Centre and New Walk Museum and Art Gallery.
Booking
An on-line form is in preparation. There will be a small charge for attendance. Accommodation needs to be booked separately if needed.
Accommodation
Bed-and-breakfast accommodation will be available at John Foster Hall, a few minutes' walk from Stamford Hall. This includes en-suite bathroom and shower, wi-fi and access to a kitchen/ shared space. Some rooms are fully adapted for wheelchair users. The cost will be £40.80 per night including VAT and a booking form will be available in mid-May.

I am Adethya Sudarsanan from India. I am a computer software engineer specializing in testing. I have made a few proposals to be presented at EduWiki Conference at UK. I want to know about the schlorship opportunities which cover airfare basically.
I have also contacted Martin with a proposal on 6th May, 2012, which is still under consideration by him.

Hi,
Along with a few others I am involved in starting a Wikiversity learning project relating to the science behind Parkinson's disease. I, and possibly a colleague, am planning to attend the EduWiki Conference 2012 and we hope that the conference will be worthwhile for us. We wish to pick up information, advice and tips for making our project a success. We also wonder whether there would be the opportunity to look at our prototype with others and gain helpful feedback and advice. - Hi Droflet and welcome. Yes, the conference is about the intersection of Wikimedia and education, including Wikiversity, which will have its own session. There will be speakers from formal education but also from online communities or projects like yours aimed at the public. I hope the conference will help these different sectors to collaborate more productively. See the guidance I've written for speakers. We'll be discussing the practicalities of running different kinds of educational project as well as some big-picture stuff about open education. conference report
A brilliant idea but with work committments I will not be able to attend. The subject is dear to my heart as a full time employed museum educator who's job it is to enable people to learn through the collections and to gain another understanding of those same collections by how new users interpret them. Will there be some form of feedback to others like myself? I wish you an interesting, informative and fun learning time. Opps forgot I was not logged into this wiki! - We will try to capture as much as possible in terms of video, social media commentary and presentation materials, and keep as much as possible under open licences. I'm sure there will be blog posts by Wikimedians and by educators. There's no substitute for taking part in person, I'm afraid, but I do hope we'll see you at a future event: sounds like your work overlaps both the education projects and cultural partnerships aspects of Wikimedia UK activity. Great idea, but seriously...
As an educator and Wikipedian I would have definitely attended this - I have a lot of Wiki-related learning material that I've created and use with my students and would've been happy to share ... except that the date, for 90% of the UK, is the first two working days of the new school year!! At pretty much any other time of year, I could've (given the benefits for my college) have attended, but the chances of getting time allowed in the first week are zero, and I'm pretty sure they are for most primary, secondary, and many tertiary staff. - Thanks for the comment and I hope we'll see you at an event in future. As you can see from the programme, we're focused primarily on university level: this meant choosing the "sweet spot" in the calendar for the university sector, but I've purposively not tried to exclude attendees from the secondary sector. We intend to run a separate day workshop just for educators at the school level. Some rough ideas have been written up at Schools/OutreachWriteup and Wikimedia for schools workshop, but there is more to come. Feel free to weigh in with suggestions about content, and if you want to help run such a session, in this or any other professional forum, then that would be great and we will see what we can do to support you. I sent Martin an email earlier this week; but messages today suggest that this didn't get through :S So; my apologies for not attending EduWiki, I had to cancel my attendance due to a sudden health issue. Unfortunately the news (from this morning) is not great, so I am glad I didn't defer the appointment.
