There is a William Gibson quote: “The future is already here — it's just not very evenly distributed”. In this case we are starting a project that is experimenting with what is possible. One of our most exciting projects is taking shape in Monmouth. The target is to make a “wiki-town”. John Cummings (who a year ago might have been an unpaid Wikipedian in Residence) is a Project Leader funded by Monmouthshire County Council and Wikimedia.UK.
The new video describes our objectives and shows some of the people involved. Volunteers have already written about 80 articles in English as well as contributions in Hindi, Danish, Czech, Welsh and several other languages. The picture of the right shows Kellie Bierne who is the Monmouthpedia lead for Monmouthshire County Council during a VIP visit to our San Francisco offices on 14th March. There is a wikimeet/party on April 21 when we will be awarding prizes. Come and see Wikipedians scanning the 1,000 QRpedia codes and hopefully finding your contribution.
