Friendly space policy
- Please note: the following document is designed to establish a safe and productive space at Wikimedia events. Unlike other documents on this site labeled policy, it does not reflect a resolution of Wikimedia UK's Board of Trustees.
Friendly space policy for Wikimedia UK-sponsored events
Wikimedia UK is dedicated to providing a harassment-free event experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion (and not limited to those aspects). We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any conference venue or talks. Event participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the event at the discretion of the event organiser.
Harassment includes but is not limited to offensive verbal comments related to gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, political affiliation, or religion. Harassment also includes sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, unwelcome following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately. Harassing behaviour will be treated equally whether it takes place on Wikimedia projects, on other websites but directed against Wikimedians, or in person.
If a participant engages in harassing behaviour, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event. If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact one of the event organisers immediately. Event organisers can be identified by special badges.
Event organisers will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide someone to accompany them, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of events. We value your attendance.
We expect participants to follow these rules at all event venues and related social events.
