All Wikimedia UK trustees are bound by the charity's Conflict of Interest Policy, the purpose of which is to ensure that all decisions and decision-making processes are, and are seen to be, free from personal bias and that they do not unfairly favour any trustee, committee member, or any associated person or organisation.

This page documents the declarations of interest that the current trustees have made, as required by that that policy. Older records may be found on the archive page.

Where there is - very exceptionally - an overriding need for a particular interest to be kept confidential having due regard to the charity's commitment to transparency, it is recorded privately on the office wiki, and details are sent in confidence to other trustees and to the chief executive. A conflicted trustee who is unable to disclose a relevant interest to fellow trustees and to the chief executive must step down from the board.

At the beginning of every board meeting and board committee meeting members are asked to disclose any conflict or potential conflict that may exist with respect to any item on the agenda. The minutes will record any such declarations, and the manner in which any conflict was handled.

Trustees

Sangeet Bhullar

I am the founder and Director of WISE KIDS a small non-profit company I set up in 2002 whose aim is to provide training, consultancy, research and resource development to promote digital literacy, digital well-being and digital citizenship for young people, parents/carers, and professionals like teachers, youth workers, librarians, police, CAMHS staff and children’s services.

In this role, I regularly deliver talks, workshops and training programmes (paid and unpaid), and in some of these, I speak about and promote open education resources and tools.

Current Directorships and Committees

I am currently a Trustee for Compassionate Mental Health. I am also a member of the Welsh Government Advisory Board on Digital Inclusion. I am also a member of the advisory committee for Stop It Now Wales. WISE KIDS is also an associate member of UKCIS (UK Council for Internet Safety).

I am not a member of any political party.

I am not aware of any conflicts of interest. If something did arise, I will declare this to the Board, and recuse myself from Board discussions as appropriate.

Lorna Campbell

I have no conflict of interests to register.

Jane Carlin

Andrea Chandler

Doug Taylor

Although now retired, there are some areas where I may still retain an interest, or may appear to have an interest that could potentially conflict:

  • I used to have a part of UHY Hacker Young, who have acted as our auditors, as a client for my company until about 2008.
  • I may still carry out some unpaid work for Metropolis 2 Ltd.
  • I retired in 2014 as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the charity, Job Change, and Chair of the social enterprise, Job Change 2007.
  • I retired in 2012 as Vice-Chair of the Regulations Committee of OCR.
  • I have been a member of the Labour party for over 40 years, and during the 1980s and 1990s served on the National Executive of the Socialist Educational Association.

My directorships, past and present, may be viewed at http://company-director-check.co.uk/director/903881846

I serve on the board of WikiProject Med Foundation, a Wikimedia user group and thematic organisation to promote the development of medical content on Wikimedia projects. Although the objects of the organisation align with our own, I will nevertheless recuse from all discussions or decisions related to WPMEDF to ensure that any conflict of loyalties is avoided.

Kelly Foster

I hold no other trusteeships or directorships.

I am a freelance public historian and consultant and I support to projects and communities including information, talks and workshops relating to open knowledge, copyright, knowledge equity and open educational resources. Affiliation:

  • I serve on the committee for the Wikimedia Foundation’s Project Grant Committee.
  • I am the lead of the UK's Creative Commons chapter.

Should any potential conflict of interest or loyalty arise I will make this known.
