Themes/Purpose The British Library's main courtyard entrance We believe that Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAMs) should constantly look for new and imaginative ways to maximise the impact of their collections and knowledge. While online collections are a popular and exciting route to engage with their audience, they typically only have small numbers of visitors—whereas working with the Wikimedia community can offer Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums a new window on a potential global audience of over half a billion people worldwide. This conference will have two main themes. On Friday, we are explaining the work Wikimedia UK has been doing with cultural organisations to showcase what partnerships and opportunities are available. You will hear first-hand how some institutions are already leveraging the connection between sharing a part of their own collections with Wikimedia and seeing some amazing benefits – such as a sharp increase in traffic to their websites and an increase in sales of merchandising. Attendees will be able to better understand the crossover of mutual interest that Wikimedians share with curators of cultural heritage to further each other's goals. On Saturday, the conference will focus on more practical side of the Wikimedia-GLAM collaborations, with workshops and discussions to develop ideas. We also have a Sunday unconference event, where the agenda and session topics are being determined by attendees, on the day. Prepare for inspiring lightning talks, and getting as involved as possible. This event is particularly relevant to any representatives of cultural institutions interested in a partnership with Wikimedia UK. Any representatives from the licensing, web, curation and interpretation departments in cultural institutions are welcome. Agenda This is a global GLAM conference, organised by the UK chapter in association with Wikimedia Sweden and Europeana, and hosted by the British Library with the support of other chapters and the WMF in terms of volunteer support and scholarships to attend. This event is bringing the Wikimedians and cultural institutions together to share their GLAM related experience. Call for papers

We are seeking proposals for presentations, workshop proposals, or panel discussions.

• On the Friday, we are hoping to look at the work Wikimedia and other organisations have done in partnership with cultural institutions, presenting case studies and discussing the benefits to both parties.
• On the Saturday, we will be focusing on the more practical and technical side, looking at ways to work together and running workshops to share best practice.

There will also be a series of practical workshops running in parallel on both Friday and Saturday. The Sunday will be organised as an unconference, where the agenda and session topics are being determined by attendees on the day.

Possible themes for papers:

• Making partnerships sustainable
  • Moving beyond a volunteer contact
  • Continuing partnerships after the the first, easy, projects
  • How to make the most of the cooperation between GLAM institutions and Wikip/medias volunteers
• New models and future projects
  • Wikipedians in Residence outside GLAMs?
  • "Ubiquitous engagement" such as Monmouthpedia.
  • Extending GLAM partnerships to non-traditional institutions
  • e-volunteering
  • Mobile engagement

The call for papers ends on 15 February. Papers from non-Wikimedian cultural institution professionals are especially welcome. Please also see here for additional details.

This day is focused on reaching out to the wider GLAM community and GLAM professionals.

This day is focused on the "GLAM-Wiki experience" and how it gets done.

Sunday 14th

This day will be run as an unconference.

Volunteer for the conference

Volunteer helpers

We will need several helpers for reception, coordination, stewards, advice and emergency help for international travellers, reporting on the events, guides for groups wanting to socialize or play tourist around the most famous sights of London, and more technical help with Audio/Video webcasts, transcription and non-English support. Please add your name and the type of help you would like to offer on the talkpage.

Scholarships

There is a limited budget to support scholarships for the conference. These are mostly aimed at supporting speakers participating in the event (please contact Wikimedia UK for details). We may be able, however, to support some delegates from cultural organisations, and key members of the Wikimedia community.
