This is an introduction for anyone who doesn’t know Wikidata yet. Discover the basics about the open knowledge base, how its content is organized, how to edit, add and query data, and a few examples of how Wikidata can be reused on the Wikimedia projects to support the small languages and their communities.

The ArticlePlaceholder uses the multilingual information contained in Wikidata to enrich the content of Wikipedia, providing basic information about a topic, a groundwork for the articles that don't exist yet. In this talk, we will learn how the ArticlePlaceholder is used on several Wikipedias, such as the Welsh Wikipedia, and what are the outcomes for the communities. We will learn more about the feedback collected from the editors, and the next steps of the tool.

After five years storing and describing concepts, Wikidata is about to start collecting information about words and phrases. The lexicographical data will bring structured, machine-readable, multilingual and community-powered data, that can be reused on Wiktionary or other projects. We will present the first version of the tool and discuss about the use cases of lexicographical data.

Wikidata has the ability to serve the needs of many language communities and could change the way computers interact with language online completely - that all depends on the community though. We will first introduce the state of multilingualism, languages and their interconnectedness in Wikidata to understand where we are now and to draw a plan where we want to go. The main part, however, should be an active discussion on what is needed to add more language labels- do we need different tools? Do we need to include more small language communities? And how can we approach that?
Mae gan Wikidata y gallu i wasanaethu nifer o gymunedau ieithyddol a gallai newid y ffordd mae cyfrifiaduron yn rhyngweithio gyda iaith ar-lein yn llwyr, ond mae hyn yn dibynnu ar y cymunedau. Yn gyntaf, byddwn yn cyflwyno sefyllfa amlieithedd, ieithoedd a’u cysylltiadau yn Wikidata, er mwyn deall ble’r ydyn ni nawr, a pharatoi cynllun ar gyfer y cyfeiriad rydym am fynd. Having data from Wikidata in your Wikipedia infoboxes will save your community a lot of time. The basic automatic infobox will display, update information in your language, and good news, it’s pretty easy to set up! During this workshop, you will learn how to set up an automatic infobox and will try it directly on your wiki.
