Passwords

The migration of accounts is a concern, as we don't want people to lose access. It is unlikely we will be
provided password hashes or email addresses by the Foundation, so we need a method for people to recover their
accounts.

I don't know why this is an issue. Is it that the WMF would simply not allow such information to be released? I often move wikis from one server to a another (doing a series of moves currently, in fact), and the mysql dump and restore of all files in Mediawiki will bring the passwords along with everything else. Just had a look at the public SQL dumps and the table "USER" is missing. Gordo (talk) 09:46, 12 April 2013 (UTC)
Yes, this is privacy rather than technical issue. Obviously the WMF doesn't make email addresses accessible, and it has been indicated to me they would not privately provide them to us either. --ErrantX (talk) 18:32, 12 April 2013 (UTC)
