EduWiki Conference 2013 is the second annual conference organised by Wikimedia UK, focusing on Education projects.

This edition of the conference is in the planning stage and this page currently holds basic information regarding some of the essential considerations being discussed by the Education Committee.

Eventually, as these plans become more concrete, this page will carry all the information about the EduWiki Conference 2013.

Feel free to contact Toni Sant (Wikimedia UK's Education Organiser) if you have any personal questions or concerns, otherwise feel to comment on the talk/discussion page.

About EduWiki 2013

Wikimedia UK is the national charity supporting the eleven Wikimedia projects (including Wikipedia, Wikiversity, Wikibooks, and Wikinews) in their mission to give free knowledge to everyone in the world. EduWiki is its annual education conference, bringing staff from universities, schools and other sectors together with wiki contributors to explore how we can support each other.

Wikipedia and its sister sites are increasingly used as platforms for educational assignments, in the UK and internationally. The conference is a chance to discover opportunities; report lessons learned; and explore how the free, open, learner-centred ethos of Wikimedia overlaps current trends in formal education.

The themes addressed in the conference include:

  • Plagiarism and the "Wikipedia problem"
  • Open resources and open practice
  • Learners as producers
  • Design and assessment of on-wiki assignments
  • Digital literacy and wiki-literacy
  • Wikipedia for younger audiences
  • Learning analytics
  • Open education and open access to research
  • Language education and writing skills

Conference Schedule

A detailed schedule will be available in the coming days. Meanwhile you can view an draft outline of the planned programme as it takes shape.

The conference begins on Friday morning and ends on Saturday afternoon, but will be followed by further activities (walking tours, edit-a-thons and a hack-a-thon) on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

The programme will eventually be assembled on this page by the same process of good faith collaboration that drives Wikipedia and its sister projects.
