The proposed full conference at the British Library in September 2012 has now been postponed to GLAM-WIKI 2013, dates to be confirmed. There will still be a smaller, GLAMcamp style event at the British Library on the weekend of Saturday September 15 and Sunday 16.
Basics
- Location: British Library
- Dates and times: 2 full days on Saturday September 15 and Sunday 16 2012
- Cost: Free
- Participants: Expected to be mostly Wikimedians, but not exclusively. International participants welcome - there are some bursaries available. Please indicate your interest below.
Topics
Please help by shaping the agenda for the weekend. Saturday can be focused on sharing best practise, so anyone linked with a GLAM organisation can present on the projects they have carried out. Sunday would be the GLAM WIKI 2013 conference planning day. The event is intended to be mainly for existing Wikimedians, and to consist mostly of workshops and discussions focusing on:
- Where GLAM is now, and where it's heading:
- Collaborations
- Tools
- Metrics
- Assessing glamwiki.org and establishing a lead contact for moving forward with updates discussed at GLAMcamp Amsterdam.
- Sharing best practices from the GLAM-Wiki Taskforce established by WM:UK and how lessons learned may be applied to the GLAM-Wiki US Consortium, and other such entities.
- Preparation for GLAM-WIKI 2013
- Topics, especially non-Wikimedian ones
- Speakers
- The institution's point of view - what's hot, what are they looking for
Suggestions
- Considering the format of us.glamwiki.org and discussing if any or all portions should be adapted for the WP:GLAM WikiProject space on English Wikipedia. How does this link/replicate/differentiate from glamwiki.org, etc.
- The role of GLAM within the models of User Groups and Thematic Organizations.
- How useful for the GLAM community is a new extension designed to export data from Facebook to MediaWiki?
- This tool is currently (August 2012) being developed by the newly-founded Media & Memory Research Initiative at the University of Hull in collaboration with the Digital Curation Centre at the University of Glasgow, through support from the Digital Preservation Coalition and JISC. Engagement at GLAMcamp could range from a presentation by the project manager to a hands-on demo for any Wikimedians interested in trying out this new extension.
Attendees
Space limited to 40 people.
