For ten weeks from 4th July 2011, the University of Bristol is hosting a student summer placement, building on Wikimedia's existing relationships with the city to create partnerships that benefit both Wikipedia and the community.
The Ambassador, chosen jointly by the University and Wikimedia UK from an impressive pool of candidates, is Sam Knight, also known as User:Wikisamia.
On his first day, Sam took part in Bristol Wiki Academy 2 to learn more about the Wikimedia projects, their communities and to meet local groups. He is arranging meetings with interested parties within and outside the University and is involved in planning events.
