[[By January 2015, Open Badges have been a subject of discussion for well over two years in the Wikimedian community. Wikimedia UK is now looking at ways we can make some actual progress on this.

Meeting our Goals

  • Strategic goal G2a.3: Open Badges provide a structure in which we can acknowledge the skills and capabilities of our volunteers in an evidence-based fashion.
  • Strategic goal G2b.3: Open Badges provide an efficient way in which our impact can be measured through both the quality and quantity of the badges we issue.
  • Strategic goal G4.2: Open Badges constitute a robust and efficient toolset which will allow us to to allow support our own programmes and effectively record impact measures.
  • Strategic goal G5: This initiative will facilitate shared learning across the entire movement, as other chapters and WMF are starting to go down this road. By taking this forward we are playing a leading role in sharing good practice and acting as a focus for debate. Also we will be working with non-Wikimedia open knowledge groups to further our open knowledge vision (Mozilla, P2pU).
