I support this proposal. It would have been useful for WLM, and I'd expect it will be useful for anything similar we might want to do next year as well. I don't know whether we can host it ourselves at lower cost than hiving it out to a separate hosting company? --[[User:MichaelMaggs|MichaelMaggs]] ([[User talk:MichaelMaggs|talk]]) 16:51, 23 October 2013 (UTC) |

This is a page for requesting community project work to be supported by the Chapter's developer capacity. This is an appropriate place to simply put ideas for projects that could be developed or enhanced.
There may over time be a number of common requests which are regularly denied, either because they are too complicated to program, or do not have consensus from the Wikimedia UK Technology Committee or Board of Trustees. Please see Technology Committee/Project requests/Frequently denied for a list of such requests, and ensure that your idea is not among them.
Requests will be considered on wiki and subject to discussion by all members of the community, and official decisions on supporting requests will be made based on cost impact and consensus of members of the Technology Committee. If the cost implications meet the thresholds of the Charity's financial protocols then the committee may make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees to approve. It is important to therefore bear in mind that agreement and pursuit of requests may take some weeks in order to comply with all processes.
To make a request please create a new topic on this page and link through to the full proposal using the Technology project proposal template.
FTP site to support projects
This request was made by Fæ for a microgrant but was rejected as microgrants as '"Website hosting"' is not eligible for micro-grant support. It was determined that it would be appropriate to re-propose it as a Technology project request. Please see full request here.
- Do we know roughly (?) how much use this would see? It would be helpful to estimate costs - I assume we'll have to think about funding it for a year and review so if we could rough this out that would help.
- What kind of gatekeeping (if any?) is in place? How would people access it (sorry if that's a silly question)
- How can we protect the charity in terms of reputation in terms of security re inappropriate use i.e. inappropriate images, illegal file sharing etc :) Katherine Bavage (WMUK) (talk) 12:15, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
- Btw anyone is welcome to come in on the above with ideas - I don't expect Fæ to necessarily have the answers to all. Katherine Bavage (WMUK) (talk) 12:16, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
