About Wikimedia UK

Wikimedia UK is the local Wikimedia chapter covering the United Kingdom. The chapter is incorporated under the name "Wiki UK Limited" and uses Wikimedia UK as its operating name. It was approved as a chapter by the Wikimedia Foundation on 12 January 2009.

Wikimedia UK is an entirely separate organization from the Wikimedia Foundation, and has no control over the contents of Wikipedia or any other projects run by the Wikimedia Foundation. We exist to help collect, develop and distribute freely licensed knowledge (and other educational, cultural and historic content), part of which we do by supporting the charitable activities of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Membership is open to all; there are no restrictions in the location or age of members, and members do not need to be editors of any of the Wikimedia Foundation projects.

Membership costs just £12 per year (£6 for consessions). Members have the right to elect the Board, submit motions and vote at AGMs, thereby playing a central role in determining the activities of the chapter.
