This is a draft policy which will be presented to the July board for consideration and hopefully approval.

As an organisation Wikimedia UK intends to supply a safe environment for visitors, volunteers and staff.

In July each year Wikimedia UK's Office manager or someone they designate to do this will conduct an electrical appliance safety audit.

This audit will include the following steps:

  1. Read the Health and Safety Executive's guidance Maintaining portable electric equipment in low-risk environments.
  2. Visually check all electronic equipment in the asset register in accordance with the HSE's recommended time intervals.
  3. If any equipment is sufficiently elderly as to require PAT testing then the equipment should be retired or tested.

Notwithstanding this, all staff are cautioned not to use equipment that is showing signs of cable damage or overheating, and to promptly report such electrical equipment to the office manager.
