OXFORD TO HOST GLOBAL WIKIPEDIA CONFERENCE

Hundreds to visit city next summer

Oxford will host a global conference next year bring together hundreds of people who contribute to the Wikipedia family of websites. The "Wikimania" conference is an annual conference focused on how to improve the websites and make them more accessible to potential users.

The first Wikimania conference was held in Frankfurt, in 2005, and since then have been held in Cambridge (Massachusetts), Taipei and Alexandria in Egypt.

A local team of volunteers put together a bid that beat competition from cities around world, including Amsterdam, Gdansk and Stockholm.
