Wikimedia UK is sad to announce that Joscelyn Upendran has stepped down as a Trustee.
Last Saturday, 1 September, local Wikimedians organised the first "Wikipedia Takes..." event in the UK, in the city of Coventry (which, contrary to popular belief, is home to many historic or otherwise interesting buildings and structures). In the latest event in Wikimedia UK's {{w|WP:GLAM/HAGAM|ongoing partnership with Herbert Art Gallery and Museum}}, 51 photographers, almost exclusively non-editors, descended upon the city for the one-day photo scavenger hunt. Over the course of the five and a half hours, over 2,000 photographs were taken and uploaded, making an invaluable contribution to open culture and the historical record about the key areas of Coventry.


"It is with great regret that I have accepted Joscelyn's resignation." said Chris Keating, Chair of the Wikimedia UK Board of Trustees. "I would like to thank her for her important contributions on the Board and look forward to her continued involvement as a member of the charity."
Many articles to do with the history of Coventry and the surrounding area are now illustrated by lots of high-quality photographs.


The constitution of Wikimedia UK allows the Board to co-opt a Trustee to fill Joscelyn’s place until the next AGM, when an election for 3 trustees will be held. About Wikimedia UK

The Wikimedia projects are special: they are written and curated by thousands of volunteers. They are also supported by voluntary donations, through Wikimedia UK, the Wikimedia Foundation and other international chapters.

Wikimedia UK is a charity registered in England and Wales that supports and promotes Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects such as Wikimedia Commons. Our mission is to help people and organisations create and preserve open knowledge, and to help provide easy access for all. We do this by supporting volunteer editors and contributors ('Wikimedians'), by working in partnership with cultural and educational institutions, by hosting training sessions and editing events, and by acting to advocate the benefits of open knowledge generally.

There are several ways to get involved in the charity's work. You can become a member for just £5 per year. You can volunteer to work with us in a variety of ways, both online and offline.
