== Experimenting with Wikipedia at a Mexican university ==
Basically, Id like to do a short version of the presentation Im making at Wikimania in July [http://wikimania2012.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions/Experimenting_with_Wikipedia_at_a_Mexican_university]
Most Wikipedia related projects have been related to replacing the term paper with the writing of Wikipedia articles in some way. While this is fine for a number of educational institutions, there are some which do not stress research such as technical schools in Mexico. This has led us to experiment with other ways of collaborating with Wikipedia such as translation assignment for foreign language, outreach activities and cooperating with the preparatory division's International Baccalaureate program, with has a community service requirement suitable for adaption to Wikipedia. In these cases, the stress in on participating in the Wikipedia/Wikimedia community rather than "simple" writing, for authentic communication in English-as-a-foreign language as well as the opportunity to learn about international communication. Students has done everything from translation of small articles to GLAM work to having an entire class centering on "immersion" into the Wikipedia "culture."
I will definitely need help with travel expenses, if this proposal is accepted.[[User:Thelmadatter|Thelmadatter]] ([[User talk:Thelmadatter|talk]]) 16:07, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

A panellist on the "culture of openness"

My name is Martin Poulter. Based at the University of Bristol, I have a background in teaching support and Open Educational Resources project within Higher Education, as well as in Wikipedia as an author and reviewer of scientific articles. I'd be prepared to defend the following statement:

"The exact factors that contribute to Wikipedia's success as a community are exactly those which managerialism and competition are eroding from higher education in the UK."

I would do this in detail by describing what I know of each culture. I could do this as part of a panel on openness, on cultural change, Wikipedia education projects or other topics, depending on what other panellists come forward.

Since I'm the convenor of the conference, I'd be very happy to withdraw this proposal to make room for other speakers! MartinPoulter (talk) 20:56, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

Talk(s) on Secondary education

A lot of our focus is on Higher Education. I'd like to talk about my experiences and ideas for Secondary education using a local example. I'd like to talk about focusing on obtaining better *readers* at this younger age, rather than editors. I could also talk about how to discuss Wikimedia projects with younger generations. --ErrantX (talk) 12:32, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Sounds great. Have you seen this? I think your experiences could prompt a very interesting discussion.Leutha (talk) 12:46, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
