When: Monday 4 July 2011
Where: BBC Broadcasting House, Whiteladies Road, Bristol BS8 2LR: ask at reception for the Wikipedia event.
What: A day event where people can learn about Wikipedia and its sister projects, including how to contribute.
Hosted by: The BBC Anchor Project and Wikimedia UK
Aims
In March, Bristol Wiki Academy 1 gave an overview of Wikipedia and its related projects, and how they could benefit the community. This event is focused on training participants to be active and confident participants in the global Wikimedia community.
Attendees will:
- Get an overview of the Wikimedia projects
- Gain hands-on experience of Wikipedia editing, writing about any subject they like
- Learn a variety of ways to improve, and benefit from, the Wikimedia projects
- Learn about the range of work done by Wikimedia UK
- Discuss how we can encourage others to benefit from, and contribute to, our mission to make knowledge and culture freely accessible to the world
Attendance at this event counts toward recognition as a Wikipedia Ambassador.
Guests are advised to bring a laptop computer (or iPad or tablet) and a book - any book at all that interests you.
Pre-registration is necessary, but free. If you are interested, send a short email to martin.poulterwikimedia.org.uk and say why you'd like to come to the event. A small number of places are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
