Purpose

Representatives from the UK and European cultural sector will come together with representatives from the Wikimedia community for a two-way dialogue to determine how to use the two communities' strengths to a mutual advantage.
  • why and how cultural institutions could work with Wikimedia projects like Wikipedia; and
  • what Wikimedia needs to do to make collaboration easier and more effective.

This event is relevant to representatives of the licensing, web, sales, and education departments in cultural institutions.

Main Events

Friday 26 - Policy

Keynote presentation by Cory Doctorow - science fiction author, activist, journalist and blogger
Day one will focus on the policy issues that affect collaboration between the cultural sector and Wikimedia:

  • Legal (e.g. copyright)
  • Business models


Friday Evening - "The free-conomy & the cultural sector"
A Wikimedia UK - Museum Computer Group joint event
Keynote presentation followed by Q&A panel - BP Theatre, British Museum 18:45.
Free for attendees of GLAM-WIKI & MCG conference. Others £20.
Keynote presentation by Dr. Kenneth Crews - Director, Copyright Advisory Office of Columbia University, New York
Panellists - Jill Cousins, Europeana; Paula Le Dieu, BFI; Gilane Tawadros, DACS; Bill Thompson, BBC.

Saturday 27 - Practice

Keynote presentation by Sue Gardner - executive director, Wikimedia Foundation
Day two will focus on the practical aspects of collaboration:

  • GLAM editing (e.g Conflict of Interest, external linking)
  • Multimedia partnership projects (e.g. metadata and Wikimedia commons)
  • Small group editing workshops


Cost

Full Registration (all tickets include attendance to the Friday evening event):

  • professional tickets, £40;
  • Wikimedians, students or volunteers, £20.

Partial Registration:

  • attendees of the MCG conference can register for Day Two of GLAM-WIKI at the discount price of £20;
  • For the Friday evening event only; at the door for £20.
