Time flies when you’re promoting the 5th biggest website on the internet, and we are fast approaching Wikipedia’s 18th anniversary. It certainly feels like a lot has happened in the last few months, and Wikimedia UK has gone through a few more changes as we look forward to our plans for 2019/20. We welcomed back our Chief Executive Lucy Crompton-Reid after her maternity leave, and we are saying goodbye to Programmes Coordinator Hannah Evans as she leaves to work for Friends of the Earth. Hannah has been wonderfully enthusiastic and we are sorry to see her go so soon, so we wish her all the best.
Our Wikimedians in Residence around the country and our staff in London have been working exceptionally hard to start new projects, deepen partnerships, open up content and organise events in partnership with all kinds of groups. Our wider community has also been doing some amazing work, with people like Jess Wade helping to get lots of attention for the work to reduce the Gender Gap on Wikipedia. We also celebrated Wikidata’s 6th birthday with a number of events around the country, and had another successful Wiki Loves Monuments competition. There’s so much going on that I will have inevitably left something out, and as we reach the end of the year, I hope this summary will give our readers some indication of all the hard work that has been put into the Wikimedia projects over the last few months.
