Our work with universities

One of our strategic goals is to support the use of the Wikimedia projects as tools for education and learning in the UK. We work with universities, support teachers developing Open Educational Resources, and advocate for the use of Wikimedia in education.

Wikimedia in the Classroom

Universities currently running in the UK which integrate editing as part of the course are linked below. Most focus on Wikipedia editing, while others include WikiBooks & WikiData editing.

Wikimedia UK can put course leaders in touch with volunteers to help teach students about Wikipedia or troubleshoot issues with editing.

Importantly we want to make it easier for course leaders to contact each other and learn from the experience of their peers.

    • Pay particular attention to
      • Medical topics, uploading files, translating articles
  3. Define the learning outcomes that you want to assess

      • Summarising sources
      • Writing in good English
      • Collaborative skills with other editors
  4. Map the outcomes to tasks which can be done through Wikimedia
