• April 3rd Jonathan Cardy joins Wikimedia UK as GLAM Organiser

Other activities

Microgrants

Information about microgrants that are currently running, and how to submit a microgrant application of your own, are at Microgrants/Applications.

• Microgrants/Photographing of London approved. The microgrant enables User:Chmee2 to travel round London taking high-resolution photographs of the city. Over 500 photographs have been taken so far, and already two are Featured Pictures on Commons: a statue of Genghis Khan at Marble Arch, and a close-up of railings at the Albert Memorial.
• Microgrants/Wrecks on Doom Bar update. On 15 April the article on Doom Bar was promoted to Featured Article status. WormThatTurned's next target is creating a list of wrecks at Doom Bar.
• Microgrants/Core Contest (prizes) update. The article improvement competition with prizes from WMUK began on 15 April and will conclude on 12 May. So far nine articles have been submitted, ranging from the crusades to Charles Babbage.
• Microgrants/KFC update. This microgrant covers the purchase of books to enable User:Farrtj, an independent editor who has no affiliations with KFC, to improve the KFC article on the English-language Wikipedia. The books were purchased and sent to Farrtj who has improved the article and is ready to nominate it at Featured Article Candidates.

• 4th April - Open Educational Resources - some reflections on OER'13 This review of the OER'13 conference was written by Wikimedia UK Associate Dr Martin Poulter.
• 8th April - THATCamp London: Have you registered yet? This post was written by Martin Lugton, co-organiser of THATCamp - The Humanities and Technology Camp. It is part of a series of guest blogs leading up to our GLAM-Wiki conference.
• 9th April - GLAMWiki keynote preview: Lizzy Jongma, Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam Another in our series of guest blogs leading into GLAMWiki, this was written by Lizzy Jongma of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
• 10th April - GLAMWiki keynote preview: Michael Edson, Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC Another GLAMWiki preview guest blog, this was written by Michael Edson of the Smithsonian.
• 11th April - GLAMWiki preview: Nick Poole, Collections Trust, London This is the final GLAMWiki preview guest blog and was written for us by Nick Poole of the Collections Trust. Nick presented at the conference.
• 18th April - National Library of Scotland and Wikimedia UK to jointly appoint Wikimedian in Residence This post announced the beginning of the recruitment process for our first Wikimedian in Residence in Scotland.
• 22nd April - Wikimedia projects reach more than 500 million people per month This post was written by Sue Gardner, Executive Director of the Wikimedia Foundation and was originally published on the Foundation's blog. Reaching 500 million unique visitors to Wikimedia projects is a huge achievement and represents around 1 in every 14 people - of all people on the planet! - using a Wikimedia project in March 2013.
• 25th April - Jisc and Wikimedia UK to jointly recruit a Wikimedia Ambassador This post announced the beginning of the recruitment process our first education-focused long term residency project.
• 25th April - The Wikidata revolution is here: enabling structured data on Wikipedia This was written by Tilman Bayer, Senior Operations Analyst of the Wikimedia Foundation, and was originally published on the Foundation's blog.

This month, we received xx in one-off donations, with xx individual donations. The average donation amount was £xx - xx% of these donors have had Gift Aid Declarations made and matched with their records. There were xx successful direct debits this month, bringing in a total of £xx.
