Trainee information
The Stamford project will be using Wikipedia as the repository for the historical archive that is being created. In order that contributors can fully understand the way in which Wikipedia works and how entries should be constructed, we are providing free training. This is essential because the information that will be gathered and recorded must be of the highest quality and must conform to the Wikipedia rules on things such as structure, style and referencing.
The course will be run by experienced Wikipedians who will provide all the necessary instruction to get you going. The workshop agenda has not been finalised yet, but will follow the outline below:
- Basics of Editing
- User space: user page; talk page; sandbox; edit summaries
- Practical work - 1-on-1 and small group work (beginners: sandbox // advanced: Historical articles)
- Plenary discussion - making and editing articles
- Sources, referencing, WP:V
- Wikipedia, Commons, WikiProjects
- WikiProject Stamford
- Practical work - 1-on-1 and small group work (improving and creating Historical buildings articles)
- Plenary discussion - What's next; Help!
This should be an extremely interesting and entertaining workshop, which will give you greater insight and new skills for working with Wikipedia. At the end of the course, you should have all the basic skills necessary to get you started creating content for the Stamford Project.
