It has been proposed that we have an annual competition to recognise the contribution of UK Wikimedians. The idea started last year when Fæ and Roger Bamkin wrote a GLAM blog post where they recognised Matthew Cock's contribution to our mission. (He is the manager of web at the British Museum who agreed to host the first Wikipedian in Residence). The UK board have had some discussions and are open to suggestions for most of it. However we have decided that we will decide who gets "UK Wikimedian of the Year" (that will save lots of COI debates about how that one is awarded). The price we pay for that is that we can't be nominated.

A sample design - the runners up prize will look like this

UK Wikimedian of the Year

We are having an annual competition to recognise the contribution of UK Wikimedians, GLAMs, Educational Institutions and a Special award. The UK board have had some discussions and are open to suggestions for most of it. However we have decided that we will decide who gets "UK Wikimedian of the Year" (that will save lots of COI debates about how that one is awarded). The price the board pay for that is that they can't be nominated.
