About Wikimedia in Scotland

Wikimedia in Scotland-4.5".png

Welcome! to the page for Wikimedia in Scotland, a sub-group of Wikimedia UK working to improve the quality of Scotland-related content across all Wikimedia Foundation projects, and outreach to appropriate cultural institutions within Scotland.

If you share our objectives, please think about getting involved! You can come along to one of our events, join the UK-wide email discussion list, and even become a member for just £5.

Wikimedia UK is a registered charity. We are supported entirely by voluntary donations – principally through the annual Wikimedia fundraiser. Please note that we are a distinct organization from the US-based Wikimedia Foundation, and have no control over Wikipedia or other Wikimedia Foundation projects.

Get Involved

It's easy to get involved with Wikimedia activities in Scotland.

Get editing!: Start editing today! There are 12 Wikimedia projects in all, from Wikipedia, a free Encyclopedia, to Wikinews, an free news source, or:

Upload your pictures: Wikimedia Commons is a repository of free (as in speech and as in beer) media. Upload your photos today and have them reach an audience of thousands.
Join Wikimedia UK: Membership of the UK-wide chapter is open to all and costs just £5 a year. While most members are editors of one (or more!) of the Wikimedia projects, you don't need to be.

Events: We organise dozens of events each year, including meetups, Editathons, "Backstage Pass" events, workshops and conferences. Almost all of these events are free of charge and open to the public - why not come along and join in?
