:::: *Cancels order for 6 Kimono....* OK, sounds like USB drives a good plan. I'll look at getting some quotes. Instinctively feel that USB drives expensive and get lost. I would favour a new member portal that had all the info on it. In time this could included entry to our Moodle learning site. The page would have videos on 'what is a wikimeet like' , ;hello to the office' how do I get more involved' etc. Jon Davies (WMUK) (talk) 14:54, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

We could create a New Member Portal before the VLE was ready, so it shouldn't stop us going ahead with that. Have a look at the en-wp Teahouse which is an interactive replacement for a static page of information. Visitors to the Teahouse ask questions and the Teahouse Hosts & Hostesses supply answers and help them where they can. It's an attractive concept, but does require staffing and dressing Kat up as a Geisha.
USB drives are cheap, and lots of companies give branded ones away. Don't forget branded pens as some folks still write on dead trees. Wikimania had a good idea: a voucher for "wikidollars" that could be redeemed for a T-shirt (we like T-shirts). --RexxS (talk) 18:00, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
+1 on what RexxS said here - although, I don't think dressing staff up as Geisha is necessary... Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 19:27, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
*Cancels order for 6 Kimono....* OK, sounds like USB drives a good plan. I'll look at getting some quotes. In the long-term I think we should look at having a 'Teahouse-style' VLE option for WMUK volunteers, members and editors - maybe this is something I can take up with the Volunteer Support person when they're in post?
