Dear all, please be aware that the venue comprises of one main room and it would be best if we did not have parallel sessions on the agenda. Daria Cybulska (talk) 16:13, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

DiffDeck
At a Manchester meetup, Mike Peel asked if I had any ideas for a presentation.  I suggested I could talk about a technical idea that has been going around in my head for a bit, which I have called DiffDeck.  The general idea is that it is a bit like TweetDeck in that it uses columns to show you lots of information at once, allowing you to scroll backwards and forwards.  In this case, each column is a diff of a particular edit of an article.  Allowing you to scan across and see which edits have been undone, and so on.

Everyone listening at the meetup thought it would be useful and I have lots of ideas for features that would make it even more useful.

Does this sound like a good topic for a talk? If I have a concern, I guess it is that I have no way to put this idea into practice myself.  But then again, maybe I'll meet some interested parties at the conference!

Richard Sennett
I think it would be cool if we could get Richard Sennett to speak at the conference.  I am currently reading his book "Together: The Rituals, Pleasures, and Politics of Cooperation".  He has some very interesting thoughts on cooperation... which is, after all, what a wiki is all about.  For example, I think that his distinction between dialogical and dialectical thinking could really help us to improve how we deal with decisions that are prone to wikidrama.  I don't know to what extent he has participated in wiki stuff, but he seems pretty tech-aware.  In the introduction to the book, he talks about how he was involved in a trial of Google Wave and why he thinks that software was ultimately discontinued.  Apparently, in his book "The Craftsman" he has talked about how people work together on both Linux software and Wikipedia.

Sennett is a professor of sociology at the London School of Economics.  If we would like him to give a talk then I would suggest that someone on the board of WikiMedia UK should contact him.

So we know a bit about what WMUK has been doing before the AGM --Filceolaire 23:47, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Someone from the UK GLAM task force could lead a "State of GLAM in the UK" presentation/session. Then people could get up and talk about their individual GLAM projects. (See the State of the GLAM: DC presentation at Wikimania 2011.) Regards, Rock drum (talkcontribs) 11:24, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
Sounds good, it's the most visible project. If the BL WIR is in place by then, it would be nice to give them a slot of a few minutes. -- 12:44, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
Happy to talk about microformats (a kind of metadata) - for how long? Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 18:22, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Support the Conference

It would be very useful if we could get a couple of volunteers supporting the delivery of the event on the 12 May. In particular, I am looking for:

 • a photographer who would be happy to document the AGM, and also take individual photos of the Trustees and Wikimedia UK staff
 • somebody happy to help at the registration desk/cloakroom

If you are interested in helping out or finding out more please feel free to register your interest here, or drop me an email on daria.cybulskaatwikimedia.org.uk
Thank you! Daria Cybulska (talk) 16:25, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
