Comment This is a draft proposal for an event focused on WMUK's future technical capacity.

Background

The Wikimedia projects are based on MediaWiki. This software is developed both by volunteers and Wikimedia employees. The Wikimedia Foundation are the lead developers of MediaWiki: They lead the main development work for MediaWiki, as well as operating the Wikimedia projects. Recently, Wikimedia Deutschland has started significantly developing MediaWiki in terms of Wikidata. Wikimedia UK is in a good position to help develop MediaWiki over the next few years, and also to improve its existing technical tools.

This workshop aims to bring together experts in technology from both the Wikimedia movement and the UK tech community in order to set out what WMUK could do to help improve the Wikimedia technology infrastructure in the next few years, and what technical capacity WMUK would need to establish in order to do so.

The workshop will take place over the course of a weekend - dates TBC. The meeting would probably be best located at the WMUK office at Old Street, London.
