EduWiki Conference 2013/Event ideas

Call for Editathon and/or Hackathon ideas at EduWiki 2013

The EduWiki Conference 2013 will be held in Cardiff on 1-2 November. This is the second edition of this conference organised by WMUK with a focus on the education sector.

In an effort to provide a wider range of activities over the weekend of the conference, we are now calling for ideas for possible editathons and/or hackathons to take place in Cardiff during or immediately after the conference. Some ideas that would be very welcome include:

• a high-profile cultural institution (i.e. a GLAM event)
• updating Cardiff pages on Wikivoyage and/or Wikipedia
• the Doctor Who experience in Cardiff Bay
• hacking the Mediawiki education-related extensions, such as this or this

If you're interested in leading (or taking on an active role) in these or any other similar activities in Cardiff between 1 and 3 November please use the template below and/or email education@wikimedia.org.uk by Friday 6 September 2013 at noon BST. We are particularly looking forward to hearing from people who already have the relevant links needed for the events. Wikimedia UK would be able to cover the event expenses.

Ideas proposed

Wikinews Photojournalism

• Name of proposer: LauraHale
• Session type: Self purposed field trip
• Description: We'll distribute some guides for doing photojournalism on Wikinews and have a half hour session or so on Wikinews reporting requirements, find a list of some events going on in Cardiff that day and encourage users to attend any of these events. At the end of the day, we'll meet up again and walk people through the process of sharing and trying to get published a Wikinews photo essay.
