GLAM-WIKI 2013 is a global conference for the GLAM sector (galleries, libraries, achives and museums) intended for sector professionals, volunteers in Wikipedia and the Wikimedia movement, and anyone interested in open content in the cultural sector. It is organised by Wikimedia UK, the UK charity that supports the Wikimedia movement in the UK, in association with Europeana, and generously hosted by the British Library.
The conference will be held at the British Library, London, on 12-14 April 2013. The whole programme is three days, with Sunday being an unconference with a parallel hackaton. For an updated programme please check the event page. Confirmed speakers include Michael Edson, the Director of Web and New Media Strategy at the Smithsonian Institution, and Lizzy Jongma, Data Manager at the Rijksmuseum. We will also have speakers from Europeana and from the Open Knowledge Foundation, among others.
We are now seeking proposals for presentations, workshop proposals, or panel discussions, lasting up to an hour (which would include questions). Please include the talk title, your name, anticipated length and the description of the talk, to include how it fits into the themes below.
On the Friday, we are hoping to look at the work Wikimedia and other organisations have done in partnership with cultural institutions, presenting case studies and discussing the benefits to both parties.
On the Saturday, we will be focusing on the more practical and technical side, looking at ways to work together and running workshops to share best practice.
The Sunday will be organised as an unconference, where the agenda and session topics are being determined by attendees on the day.
The deadline for submissions is February 15th 2013. Please email submissions to Daria Cybulska - daria.cybulskawikimedia.org.uk. You can also contact Wikimedia UK office on +44 (0) 207 065 0990.
If you are interested in joining the event as an attendee, you can register here.
