* Hi Andy, many thanks for submitting this microgrant request. I understand that there is a potential conflict of interest here, since you offer to do contract work on QRpedia related projects, which means that you may (directly or indirectly) receive a commercial benefit from this microgrant. Would you be able to explain how this COI would be addressed here, please? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 18:18, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

**I do indeed offer to undertake such work, but I'm quite clear that there is no conflict of interest in this request; otherwise I would not have submitted it. I made this application because have been asked about the supply of of such plaques during several of the activities where I have represented or worked on behalf of the Chapter, as a volunteer. These include Wikimania, my trip to Hamburg, and the recent GLAM conference in London. There is no opportunity for me to derive direct commercial benefit from attendance, not least as I always offer to put institutions in touch with suppliers; do not act as an intermediary, and do not take a commission. However, I am troubled by your reference to "indirect" benefit, on which I can give no guarantees. Any recipient of Chapter support might receive such indirect benefit, at some unspecified point in the future, if a potential client or employer is impressed by their CV, or asks them to use a transferable skill acquired during a chapter-funded activity or event. Indeed, at the recent train-the-trainer session, it was made clear that participants were welcome to undertake paid training if and when opportunities arose. If such hypothetical future benefits were unacceptable, the chapter would be unable to offer support to anyone, let alone anyone offering to do Wikipedia-related work. However, the point may be moot, as the event concerned has been postponed until an unspecified date in April next year. I therefore request that my application be marked as suspended, until I resubmit it near then, lest it prevent me from making other applications in the meantime. <span class="vcard"><span class="fn">Andy Mabbett</span> (User:<span class="nickname">Pigsonthewing</span>); Andy's talk; Andy's edits</span> 14:17, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Overview

To attend the "QR World Expo" exhibition in London (from Birmingham)

Budget

£118.70 (£98.70 train fare; £20 per diem; per expenses policy) Note: off-peak train travel would not get me to the venue on time.

Timeline

Event is on 24 October 2012 postponed until April 2013.

Expected outcomes

Attendance would benefit my work on QRpedia, and assisting GLAMs and other partners to deploy it, by allowing me to research QR code making tools, and suppliers, on the market. I'd conduct outreach, by speaking to those suppliers about potential partnership/collaboration, and about them possibly recommending QRpedia to their customers, and/or including QRpedia code generators in their tools.
