I have just received one of these letters and I want to say how disgusted I am with it. I hate receiving snail-mail from charities and especially begging letters like this. I tolerate the banners in Wikipedia touting for donations because it is part of the fund raising effort to keep the organisation alive. If I had received an email from the Foundation asking me about an annual donation I probably would have gladly done so, but instead the decision was made to spam me with paper. I consider this a waste of the money that I donated and a sign of an organisation that thinks more about P&L, or RoI, than about the moral use of charitable monies. No one in the organisation should be saying "if we spend <x> much money sending out mailings we will get <y> percentage success and raise <z> more cash", I feel this might be the modern way of fund raising but it is not in the spirit of charity. Until I hear that the Wikimedia foundation won't be wasting their money I'll have to think twice about further donations. - Bob H

Direct debit

In the Direct debit you only give options for monthly and quarterly donations, not annually. Personally I would only clutter my bank statements with a monthly or quarterly debit for things as big as my Council Tax and Mortgage. When I give to charities I don't clutter my life or waste their banking costs on lots of small transactions. So please add an annual option. WereSpielChequers 09:13, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunately with our current direct debit system we are not allowed to accept yearly direct debit declarations. Hopefully we'll be able to accept them in the future, but we can't during this fundraiser. Mike Peel 09:41, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation, I can't understand why a direct debit system would accept monthly transactions but not annual ones, however if you can't currently do this but hope to in the future then I shall try to be patient. WereSpielChequers 02:31, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
