Equipment Loan Procedure

Wikimedia UK has a pool of equipment and merchandise available for use, for example when visiting the office or attending events. To borrow any of the chapter's equipment, please email volunteeringwikimedia.org.uk.

The requirements for use of the equipment are:

1. The use adheres to the objects of the charity "for the benefit of the public, to promote and support the widest possible public access to, use of and contribution to Open Content of an encyclopaedic or educational nature or of similar utility to the general public".
2. Any media files created must be published under a free licence acceptable on Wikimedia Commons, complying with the project scope.
3. Media files created and uploaded to Wikimedia Commons must be tagged with the template {{WMUK equipment}} so that it is categorised within the appropriate category for media files generated.

Volunteer Loan Procedures

Wikimedia UK offers equipment loans to regular, trusted volunteers of the charity. In order to borrow equipment as an individual, you must be:

1. Be willing to provide the charity with your full name and residential address
2. Be in good standing with the charity

We do this so that we know where the equipment is being used or kept - this in turn helps keep our insurance costs down and allows us to prove to our volunteers and donors what the equipment loan supported.

Organisational Loan Procedure

The procedure for organisational loans (such as other Wikimedia Chapters, museums, or community groups) are considered on a case-by-case basis.

If you have ideas for something that is not on the list, you can also make suggestions for purchase or rental.
