Enlist student volunteers in UK Universities to promote Wikimedia projects around campus.

Outline

From a Guardian Tech Weekly podcast, I heard that this was happening in the US, but could not find an equivalent in the UK. The idea would be for the student representative to set up meetings, discussions and presentations with academics and students to encourage participation in, and usage of Wikimedia projects. In particular, dispelling some of the myths and stereotypes held by academics, and encouraging them to correct errors and become involved in the wider project.

Benefits

Successful meetings will lead to a better Wikimedia resources, as well as opening up the projects for wider use in the academic community.

Requirements

No funding required. Perhaps the only required resource would be a set of dos and don'ts, and some sort of endorsement from the foundation. Not essential however.

Volunteering

I'd be keen to start at Edinburgh University. I would also be able to co-ordinate new recruits on other campuses.
